Questions Travellers Ask

Easy with optional light walking. Day 3 includes a relaxed 1.5-hour gorge walk and Day 4 has short canyon walks (under 2km). All optional — anyone reasonably mobile is fine.

Generally not. The highest you'll be is briefly around 2,200m at Jety-Oguz canyon viewpoints. Bishkek (800m) and Issyk-Kul (1,600m) are low enough that altitude isn't a concern.

Comfortable walking shoes (some rocky terrain in canyons), layers for variable mountain weather, a windproof jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a swimsuit if you want to dip in Issyk-Kul. Modest dress for the Dungan Mosque visit.

Yes. Both are easy across this route. Karakol is one of the few places where vegetarian Dungan cuisine is widely available — we can build that into your meals.

Mid-May to late September. June and September are the most pleasant. July–August are warmer with peak lake season. The canyon colours are best in late September.

Manas International Airport (FRU) in Bishkek. Airport transfer on arrival and departure is included. The tour starts and ends in Bishkek.
