Traveller Stories
In their words
Booked Nomadic Heart after seeing photos of Song-Kul. Sleeping in a yurt at 3,000m and waking up to grazing horses was something else entirely. Our guide knew every herder family by name.
Did the 9-day Grand Kyrgyzstan with my husband. The mix of culture, mountains, and food was perfect. Ascend handled every detail — we just showed up and enjoyed.
Was nervous about Central Asia as a solo female traveller. The team made me feel safe from the moment I landed in Bishkek. Best trip I've done in years.

Questions travellers ask
We offer both. Most of our tours run in two formats: scheduled group departures (minimum 4 travellers, set prices per person) and fully private tours (your own dates, your own party, no strangers joining). Some tours — Bishkek Express and Luxury Highlights — are private-only by design. Each tour card shows both options and prices where applicable.
Yes. Kyrgyzstan is one of Central Asia's most stable and traveller-friendly destinations. Crime rates are low, locals are famously hospitable, and English is increasingly spoken in tourist areas. Our guides are licensed, our vehicles are insured, and we operate everywhere we go — no subcontractors for core ground operations.
Most Western travellers (EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia, NZ, Japan, South Korea) get 60 days visa-free on arrival. For other passports, an e-visa is available online for around $50. We'll confirm your specific requirements when you enquire.
Peak season is June–September: high mountain passes are open, yurt camps are operating, and weather is reliable. May and October are shoulder season — beautiful but with some restrictions on alpine routes. Winter (December–March) is for ski touring and snowy landscapes only. Tour-specific seasonality is listed on each tour card.
Most tours are designed for average fitness. If you can hike for 3–4 hours on a moderate trail, you're set for the Highlights, Nomadic Heart, Grand Kyrgyzstan, and Luxury tours. Horse Riding requires basic comfort on horseback (we can teach beginners). Trekking Expedition is for hikers with prior multi-day experience — we'll walk you through it before booking.
We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, and most allergies with advance notice. Kyrgyz cuisine is meat-heavy by default but our partner kitchens are flexible. Tell us at the booking stage and we'll plan around it.
Yes. We can arrange a local SIM card with 30GB of data for under $10 on arrival. 4G covers Bishkek, Issyk-Kul, Karakol, Naryn, and Osh. Expect spotty-to-zero connectivity at Song-Kul, Tash-Rabat, and on multi-day treks — bring offline maps.
We accept payment via Wise, credit/debit card, or direct bank transfer to our company account in Kyrgyzstan. We ask for a 30% deposit to confirm your booking; the balance is due on arrival in Bishkek. All payments are receipted from our registered legal entity OsOO Ascend Tours.
Yes — every tour can be tailored. Want to add a day in Karakol? Swap the trek for a horse ride? Combine two tours? Tell us your dates and what matters to you. We'll come back within 4 hours with a custom proposal.
Most of our private-tour guests are solo travellers or couples — that's exactly the format private tours are designed for. For group tours, you'll join 2–8 other travellers on scheduled departures, also typically solo or paired. Kyrgyzstan is widely considered one of Central Asia's safest destinations for solo travellers, including solo women.
